Computational fluid dynamics CFD of in-cylinder combustion

CFD with adequate mixing and combustion submodels can be a valuable tool to predict
heat release process and formation of harmful matters. Spatial and temporal informations
on fuel-air mixture concentraion, temperature and combustion products provide hints for
controlling combustion and for selecting design and operational parameters in real engines.
For this purpose and also in more fundamental aspects, we have developed the following CFD codes.
1. CFD simulation with Flame Area Evolution model to predict combustion in spark-ignition engines
2. Simulation of natural-gas PCCI combustion considering heterogeneity in fuel-air mixture
 concentration and temperature using a CFD with a stochastic mixing model
