SI gas engine

Hydrogen is a promising future fuel which has prominent properties such as no CO2 emission
and highly efficient lean burning ability. To utilize these properties with high engine durability
and a wide output range, control of backfire, knock and cooling heat loss is required.
To reach to this goal, we have carried out the following experimental investigations using a test engine.

1. Extending operational range of hydrogen-fuelled SI engines by suppresion of abnormal combustion
2. Utilization of hydrogen with natural gas to realize high-efficiency operation over a wide range of engine output
